Career Edge - Youth Habilitation Quinte,
Inc. 2001-2007 |
|
| |
As a part-time Employment Consultant for the Human Resources
and Skills Development Canada (now MTCU) funded program,
I have seen over 1200 clients and developed approximately
1000 Return to Work Action Plans. I work in a program
satellite office and manage all aspects of its operation
(counselling, case management, reception and marketing).
I assist a high proportion of clients to pursue self-employment
as a viable rural work option.
From July 2003 to January 2005, I worked as a Mental
Health Counsellor/Housing Outreach Worker with at-risk
youth providing therapy and support for housing related
issues (crisis management, depression, and anger management).
I worked extensively with community partners such
as CAS, OPP, the Health Unit and the local high school
in service coordination for youth. I ran youth groups
on such topics as anger and stress management.

Work Enterprise Centre 1998-2003 |
|
| |
I successfully developed the Work Enterprise Centre
with training funds from the Ontario Works program.
As the Management Co-ordinator, I oversaw all day-to-day
operations and provided employment placement and career
counselling services. The Centre's innovative temporary
work service still functions, and it is operated by
the local Chamber of Commerce. It generates much needed
insured work hours for at-risk and low-income individuals.
In addition to development and implementation of Centre
programs and services, supervision of staff, students,
and volunteers was an integral part of the administrator
role. Fundraising and finance related expertise was used
in the development and monitoring of the Centre budget
as well as in negotiations with a variety of government
funders. In addition, leadership, teamwork, negotiation,
public relations and conflict resolution skills were
utilized on a daily basis during the Centre's early development
phase.
Before obtaining Ministry of Health funding, I worked
to develop the Centre on a voluntary capacity. To supplement
this developmental work, in the fall of 1989, I held
a community development contract with Catholic Children's
Aid Society.

Working Women Community Centre 1978-1980 |
|
| |
At Working Women as a counsellor, I worked with immigrant
women who were experiencing problems adjusting to Canadian
society. Counselling was often focussed on domestic
violence issues. One of my achievements at the Centre
was the organization of self-help groups for immigrant
women. I also successfully secured funds for a dressmakers'
cooperative, a women's economic development initiative. |
